Flexible printed circuit board (FPC) is known for the advantages of softness, lightness, thinness and flexibility. As electronic products become smaller in size, lighter and thinner, FPC gradually replaces rigid PCB to be key component of products like Notebook computers, smartphones, camera, tablet etc.
Traditional flex PCB materials are mainly based on the three-layer structure of PI film adhesive/copper foil. The adhesive is mainly Epoxy/Acrylic, but the adhesive has poor heat resistance ability and dimensional stability. Its 200°c maximum operating temperature sets a limit on its application,especially not fit for high reliability applications. For this reason, adhesiveless FCCL is a highly recommended option to produce high reliability, high density circuitry of flexible, rigid-flex, and all-flexible multilayer constructions.
There are various types of copper foil are offered in a range of weights (thicknesses). Their characteristics differ, and an understanding of these differences is important to ensure the correct selection of copper foil for each application or environmental condition.We have single sided and double sided FCCL with polyimide, PET backing and different thickness combinations.

FCCL can be broadly grouped into:Single-sided,Double-sided and Multi-sided FCCL PCBs.The major divisions are based on whether the circuit board uses adhesive or not.Also, the consideration is whether adhesive is added in-between the copper foil(s) and Polyimide Film (PI). Irrespective of the presence of adhesive or not, the FCCL can still be used to fabricate the flexible PCBs.
There are mainly 2 types of FCCL:
ED Copper:The matte and drum side of the copper foil go through different treatment cycles so that the copper could be suitable for PCB fabrication. The treatments enhance adhesion between the copper and dielectric interlayer during copper clad lamination process. Another advantage of the treatments is to act as anti-tarnish agents by slowing down oxidation of copper.
Rolled Copper: Rolled copper is made by successive cold rolling operations to reduce thickness and extend length starting with a billet of pure copper. The surface smoothness depends on the rolling mill condition.
Rogers LoPro™ Copper:
It is a thin layer of adhesive is applied on the reverse treated side of the copper. There is a physical layer of the bond enhancement material. Just like the reverse treated electrodeposited copper, the adhesive treated side is bonded to the dielectric layer for better adhesion. Our RO4000 series material are available laminated with LoPro copper foil.
Ultra Thin Copper Clad Aluminum (CAF)
CAF foils will be better substitutional material to RA copper foils and ED copper foils, totally metallurigical bonding, without any cracking and separation. The material has sufficient durability, conductivity, signal transmission and overall reliability, and sufficient strength when welding electronic components.
